ADHD
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a fairly common disorder that affects a person’s ability to remain focused and control impulsive behaviors. Those with ADHD might find themselves feeling restless and have a near-constant urge to be active and moving.
Although it is frequently diagnosed in children and adolescents, ADHD can continue well into adulthood, along with problems such as inattention, disorganization, and poor impulse control.
At Mind Body Medicine, we are pleased to offer treatment options for those with ADHD. Whether you are a parent concerned about your child’s behavior and symptoms, or an adult who feels like this description sounds all too familiar, we are here to help.
Symptoms
Some of the symptoms of ADHD can include:
- Difficulty sustaining attention in tasks or play
- Failure to follow through on instructions, projects, or tasks
- Easily sidetracked
- Trouble getting and staying organized
- Frequently losing items necessary for school, work, or other essential tasks
- Becoming distracted easily by unrelated thoughts or stimuli
- Forgetful in daily activities
- Seems not to listen well when spoken to directly
- Fidgeting, squirming, and not being able to sit still
- Restlessness
- Inability to quietly engage in play or hobbies
- Being constantly in motion
- Talking nonstop
- Interrupting others when they’re speaking, blurting out answers, finishing other people’s sentences, and not being able to wait for one’s turn to speak
Having any or some of these symptoms does not always mean a person has ADHD. Children are especially prone to some of these behaviors naturally and ultimately learn to harness their energy and focus as they grow. An active child doesn’t necessarily equate to one with ADHD, and we are very careful to assess each patient’s full medical and personal history before making a diagnosis.
Treatment
It is our highest priority to provide thorough and effective care to all our patients, and that starts with treating the person as a whole, not just the symptoms. Treatment options for ADHD may include medication such as stimulants, non-stimulants, and antidepressants, therapy, and stress-management techniques, to name a few.

Alcohol Abuse
Alcohol addiction is a serious, crippling affliction. When a person is unable to control their drinking, they become unable to participate in important daily tasks. Alcohol addiction is also difficult for friends and family members to witness. Many people with an alcohol addiction start their day with a drink, feel guilty about their drinking, and although they may have the desire to cut down on their drinking, it is almost impossible to do so on their own.
At Mind Body Medicine, we help guide patients who want to cut down on or completely quit drinking. We have programs that are designed to help people cut down on their drinking, without giving up alcohol altogether, as well as traditional programs designed to cut out alcohol entirely.

Common Eating Disorders
There are many different types of eating disorders that can impact people every year. The most common eating disorders reported include Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, and Binge Eating Disorder.
Anxiety
Anxiety is a complex and multifaceted emotion that can deeply impact a person’s daily life. It is characterized by feelings of unease, worry, and fear, often accompanied by physical symptoms such as increased heart rate, restlessness, and difficulty concentrating. Anxiety can manifest in various forms, ranging from generalized anxiety disorder to specific phobias or panic disorders. It can arise from a combination of genetic predisposition, environmental factors, and life experiences. While occasional anxiety is a normal part of the human experience, persistent and excessive anxiety can be debilitating, affecting one’s relationships, work, and overall well-being. Managing anxiety often involves a combination of therapeutic techniques, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, relaxation exercises, and, in some cases, medication, to help individuals regain control over their thoughts and emotions, and live a more balanced and fulfilling life.
Schizophrenia
Schizophrenia is a complex and chronic mental disorder that profoundly affects a person’s thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. It is characterized by symptoms such as hallucinations, delusions, disorganized thinking, and reduced emotional expression. Individuals with schizophrenia often experience a significant impact on their daily functioning and relationships, leading to difficulties in work, school, and social interactions. Although the exact cause of schizophrenia is unknown, a combination of genetic, environmental, and neurochemical factors is believed to contribute to its development. Treatment typically involves a combination of antipsychotic medications, therapy, and support services to help manage symptoms and improve quality of life for those affected by this challenging condition.
Bipolar Disorder
Bipolar disorder, also known as manic-depressive illness, is a mental health condition characterized by extreme shifts in mood, energy levels, and activity levels. People with bipolar disorder experience episodes of mania, characterized by elevated and euphoric moods, excessive energy, impulsivity, and racing thoughts. These manic episodes are followed by periods of depression, marked by feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and low energy. The transition between these mood states can be rapid or gradual, and the frequency and duration of episodes vary among individuals. Bipolar disorder can significantly disrupt daily life, relationships, and overall functioning. Treatment typically involves a combination of medication, psychotherapy, and lifestyle adjustments to help manage symptoms and achieve stability. With proper support and management, individuals with bipolar disorder can lead fulfilling lives and maintain stability in their mental health.
